Indian Cricket 2012
We have seen the highs and lows of Indian cricket. We have seen Dhoni being made a hero and now it is time to say goodbye! In the recent series of Dhoni has proved to be one of the worst captains.
It may seem that we are making a judgment on Indian captain but is it not correct that a captain should be judged by how much runs are scored by the opposing team. There are two parts to a game, one is the offensive side and the other is the defensive side. On the offensive side, it is more off the field because only two batsmen come to the crease and captain can be one of the 11 though in the dressing room captain can make an impact on the morale. A captain plays a very pivotal role on the defensive side when he has the entire team available to him and he is trying to level with the opposing team’s two players who are out for batting.
It would be very hard to argue that in recent years, we have not had a more dismal performance by an Indian side as led by MS Dhoni.
So what of the future of MS Dhoni? You MS Dhoni is the rich man and he has made millions. He has endorsement deals. He is one of the richest sports persons in the world. He has shown very little passion for the game so it is a in all fairness that a rich man retires and makes room for somebody who’s more passionate about the game and cares for the expectations of the passionate public for whom this is one of the leading sources of entertainment. The urgency of action exists for a country like India this is a galvanizing sport. The BCCI, has cared very little to keep the interest of the public in keeping the game lively at all times. The BCCI on the other hand has made tons of money out of the sport and have taken the sport to a level where most Indians would lose interest.
As a lesson learned out of the recent developments, would it not be plausible, to create guidelines such as that a test player has to retire at the age of 35 and a limited overs player has to retire at the age of 32. These are as arbitrary as having no limits but nevertheless would make the future BCCI to plan for succession of the team and development of younger players. Another thought is to keep the sport protected from the politicians who have no clue about the interest of the public and much less about the sport.
